Cable Car Coffee Company®
History

In the Gold Rush days of 1849, great Clipper Ships carried the world’s finest coffee into the port of San Francisco.
The longshoremen would unload the coffee pallets by hand and when a bag would break open the workers would take these fine beans home with them while riding on the famous San Francisco Cable Cars.
They would trade the best coffee beans for free rides on the San Francisco Cable Cars.

The San Francisco Cable Car drivers would then take these fine coffee beans back to the Cable Car Barn where they would experiment with different coffee blends. Over a period of many years, they created some of the world’s finest coffees and blends. These secret blends were passed from one generation of  San Francisco Cable Car drivers to another over a period of many years.
Cable Car Coffee Company Inc. opened its shop at the famous San Francisco Cable Car Turnaround at Market and Powell streets in San Francisco in 1988.
